The Summer Infant Deluxe Day & Night Handheld Video Monitor is the larger color screen upgraded version of the hugely popular Summer Infant Day and Night Handheld Color Video Monitor and like this handheld video monitor, it too has received a great deal of positive feedback from parents and is just as highly rated.
Deluxe vs Non-DeluxeThe major difference is the screen size that goes from 1.8” on the standard set to 2.5” on the Deluxe set. Both the camera unit and handheld unit have been slightly redesigned and the Deluxe version offers a more rounded and softer look and feel. The Deluxe version is also available in either a soft pink color or a soft blue color, whereas the standard version was only available in the neutral off white color. The frequency signal range and reception distances remain the same.
VideoThe Summer Infant Deluxe Day & Night video is full color across its 2.5 inch screen. The quality of the picture (ignoring any specific reception issues that you may or may not have) is actually pretty good. The picture is a great deal more than adequate for remotely monitoring your baby, but does not rival the higher end digital quality of some of the latest and considerably more expensive non-handheld models on the market today. The picture that you get in a darkened room or at night reverts to black and white and for many actually provides better clarity than the color video picture.
SoundLike the standard Night and Day model, the Summer Infant Deluxe Day & Night Handheld model really does provide exceptional quality of sound. The smallest noises and important rustles can be quite distinctly picked up and unwanted disturbance noises do seem to be minimized.
Frequencies and InterferenceThe whole Summer Infant Deluxe Day and Night Video Monitor system works on the 900 MHz band. For many that have some of the older home networks or older digital phone systems, this may be the same frequency. This shouldn’t put you off assuming that you will not be able to receive a non-interfered signal, as so many that has a 900 MHz cluttered house have discovered. The ability of this model, compared to other brands at the 900 MHz frequency has somehow found a way to reduce any interference to a level that does not impact that practical use of this monitoring system. In case you do find some interference, there is a two channel selector switch that you can change to move from the interfered band to a clear one. Many other people with no home network overloads report that they have no interference issues at all and both sound and video are transmitted flawlessly. Interference really is a location issue and even if you do not personally have other 900 MHz devices in your home, there may be stray signals floating around from nearby. All in all though the level of negative comments with regard to interference degradation is almost non-existent and that is with hundreds of thousands of these units sold.
Handheld PortabilityObviously the main reason why you would be considering the Summer Infant Deluxe Day & Night Handheld Video Monitor in the first place is most probably for the benefit of being totally portable. The handheld unit is very compact and easy to grip and genuinely lightweight. The buttons and functions are easy to figure out and use and clearly and accessibly laid out. The system comes with a handy clip so that you can clip it onto your belt as you walk around or a retractable pop out stand to place on a table or such like when you are staying put in one place for some time. You can use the second supplied AC adapter or rechargeable batteries to run the handheld unit for about 10 hours.
Other Handy FeaturesAbility to switch off the video capability and just rely on the sound function of the unit, to save batteries and darken the room at night for those light sensitive sleepers. The camera unit itself doesn’t need to be mounted to the wall, like many systems out there, but can be stood on a flat surface and the camera itself swivel adjusted to find the perfect position to see your baby. The camera unit has its own AC adapter in addition to a second one supplied for the handheld unit. The handheld monitor has an LED light display on the front that lights up progressively as the sound levels from your baby increase to alert you of sudden bursts of noise. When running on batteries, the video display will automatically time out and power down leaving just the sound mode to save battery power. The straight line range of 350 feet continues to be the maximum specified distance for camera to handheld unit reception. |
