BestView or Best View?

This has confused so many people that look at this line of Summer Infant monitors and I can quite understand why.

Summer Infant has recently updated and improved its hugely successful BestView monitor (notice no space between the two words) and released the new and improved version as Best View (notice the space between the two words).

The two packages do look different, but for all intents and purposes include essentially the same features and functions that made this line such a runaway success in the first place.

The main differences include an updated look of the camera and monitor units, an extended range from 350 feet to 400 feet, different control dials and a number of technological improvements to sound picture that the normal person would not really notice to any great extent.

Strangely enough, the actual price that you can buy the newer Summer Infant Best View Digital Video Baby Monitor at is quite often marginally lower than the older BestView model…go figure!

Design and Build Quality

If you have had previous experience with Summer Infant electronic products than you will already be aware of the high level of quality that they produce their products to and the Best View baby video monitor is no exception.

This baby video monitor package is sure to last you for the time period that you need…and that may very well include additional babies in the future!

The actual looks of the system are smart, modern and subtlety colored.

I personally prefer the overall look of the later model, it just looks more modern and more rounded, but that’s just a personal preference.

Ease of Use

From an ease of use perspective, all of the controls and functions are well tried and tested and are intuitively simple to master.

The newer model gives you access to your controls via an iPhone / iPod like dial, which is very user friendly.

The older model has more traditional buttons for the various controls and work without fault.

Setting up, using and adding additional cameras to your setup is also very straightforward and certainly a lot easier and less frustrating than many other monitor sets available today.

Digital

Both models are digital, which for practical purposes provides better sound and video reception and also greater distance coverage.

The newer model can work at 400 feet and the older model maxes out at 350 feet.

You should be aware that these are unobstructed distances and the real world distances will be shorter.

Video

The Summer Infant Best View Handheld Color Video Monitor with 2.5 Screen provides full color picture during the day and automatically reverts to black and white at night time.

The quality of the actual video, both daytime color and night time black and white is really very good.

There are some comments that the picture is not as sharp as they would like, but it turns out that those people are not comparing the picture to other baby video monitors, but perhaps to large screen high definition movie theatres.

The picture that you receive on the monitor unit is great and of high standard.

Sound

Thanks, probably to the digital technology built into the Best View monitoring system, both the sound clarity and the ability to pick up tiny noises is really second to none.

A lot of people that actually buy a video monitor set, more often than not use just the audio capability and this unit delivers impressive quality.

Movement

One of the best features of this set is the ability to pan, scan and zoom in on your baby from the handheld monitor unit.

The camera responds well to control changes and it really is a simple operation.

Night Time Features

The system comes with video off mode for night time whilst still maintaining the sound function, particularly good for unnecessary video light glare as you try to sleep and also for preserving the battery.

The monitor does of course monitor variations in baby noise and there are LED warning lights that appear on the monitor unit as necessary.
